NYCC commissions

Here are two commissions ordered on time and now just waiting for their owners to collect them at NYCC. :)

New York Comic Con

I'll be at NYCC again this year. Just like last time, I’ll be at Splash Page Comic Art booth. There you can buy my original art, get your comic books signed, get a sketch or commissioned artwork.

Here’s the price list:

Small head sketch in books - $10
Pencil drawing on 6x8 inches paper -$40
Commission, inked, on 10x15 inches drawing board -$100  for one character,
$50 for background or additional character

If you contact me (or Mark) earlier, you’ll make sure to get your commission. It’s hard to say how many I’ll be able to draw there and how big the demand will be.

Also, I’ll attend Skybound panel on Friday, 10/12, from 2:45-3:45PM. There you might finally find out what I’ve been doing lately. :)

 

My Five Most Influential Croatian Comic Book Artists

Over at CBR you can read my article on five Croatian artists that had most influence on my work. Also, as an introduction to this list there's a brief history of Croatian (and partly Yugoslavian) comics.

On other, sadder, news - due to some bureaucratic bullshit I won't be able to attend Erlangen and Strasbourg comic festivals. : (

New York, New York again ...

I'll be at New York Comic Con this year again, but this time instead of running around I'll be spending my time at the booth of Splash Page Art, selling my original art and drawing commissions.

The Big One!

My apologies folks, for this long pause.
Instead of explaining myself let's try and recap what I've been doing these last few months.
First of all, I've been doing some commissions for German fans. You can see them at my portfolio blog.
I delivered those during my German signing tour. I have to say big thanks to Alex Bubenheimer for inviting us and organizing the whole thing and all the nice people from comic shops where signings took place. Also big shoutouts to Davide Gianfelice and Kari Korhonen who were great company throughout the tour and, of course, to all the fans that came to see us.

After five days in five different cities, we spent great weekend in Contern, Luxemburg as guests at small but charming festival. So big thanks to our hosts there, too. Here's Kari's lovely drawing of our little adventure.

But, the thing that kept me really occupied was my first Marvel gig.
I got invited to draw two issues of Wolverine, written by one of the best contemporary writers - Jason Aaron. Despite the tight deadlines it was a real pleasure working on it. Especially because they were colored by amazing Matthew Wilson. Both issues are out during September. Previews are here and here. For you, dedicated followers, here's some b/w pages.



And, at last, the book I've been working on for a long time is finally announced!
A.D.D. is the name of the graphic novel written by Douglas Rushkoff. Douglas is a smart guy, so go and visit his website. I did all of the pencils and Jose Marzan Jr. helped me out on inks through bigger part of the book. Some of you longtime visitors will probably recognize the characters from my previous posts. Cover illustration was conceived and designed by Mrva. I just did the drawing.

CRŠ report

Yeah, I know I've promised second part of NY Con report, but Blogger is really not friendly for posts with lots of pics along with commentaries, so I'll do it later.
In the meantime, I just wanted to let you all know that I had a great time on the last installment of Crtani Romani Šou! This one was the 13th and it was one of the best.
There were lots of exhibitions, promotions and signings. Lots of friends showed up, it was a beautiful weather and we had a lot of fun.
The guests were really diverse, so everybody could find something interesting.

New York Report, part 1

OK, here we go ...
We (Esad, Zeljka, Talaja, Vlatka and me) rented an apartment in Hell's Kitchen for a week. Esad found a perfect location; 5 minutes of walk to the convention center and 15 to our publisher's offices. Cosy place, cheaper then any hotel on same location.
That window on the second floor, on the left - that was my room.
Manhattan is amazing! None of the pics can really describe how tall these buildings are.


But honestly I can't imagine people actually living and working in there. Of course it's not all just skyscrapers. One of my favourite is Dakota building where "Rosemary's baby" is taking place and where John Lennon lived and was shot in front of.
Dakota is right next to Central Park. Big and beautiful!
You could almost forget you're in the middle of one of the biggest cities in the world ...
Yeah, almost ...
Around the town there are smaller parks, like Bryant Park here. Perfect places for a coffee and cigarette breaks.


I was surprised to hear from the local people same rant that's going on probably in every bigger (or smaller) city in the world - how it all changed and it's not like it's used to be. That Times Square looks like Las Vegas now, for instance. To me, it always seemed that way.
What I find ironic, if not cynical, is that at the tourist epicenter of Big Apple there's a recruiting center. I wondered can a tourist come in and get drafted?
Not that I'd want to do it myself, of course. >: )
We met Spiderman there. At first we got along just fine, but then ...
... he found out I'm working for DC Comics! : P
So, Talaja had to jump in and explain there's a new boss in town!
Speaking of DC Comics, their building on Broadway is far from being one of the largest, but being all black, it stands out as rather unique.

At the corner of it, there's a coffee bar/restaurant with chairs and tables outside where you can smoke. So I had my meetings down there, instead up in the offices.
Corridors and offices are decorated in a way that you have no doubt comics are being produced here. This is Metropolis. On the lower floors there's Gotham, too.

That statue is rather lame. I liked the old one better.
This is not some teenager's room. It's a typical room of a DC employee. : )
New York is famous for its restaurants, too. There's probably not a nation in the world that wouldn't have its cuisine here. We visited quite a few. Man's gotta eat, right? This is a Japanese one, with bizarre shop above it.

Evening after that at Chinese restaurant a historic moment - "Scalped" crew meeting in person all together for the first time. So much love there; Will Dennis, R.M. Guera, Jason Aaron and Giulia Brusco!
