Italian job

Today, I'll be leaving to Italy. First to Florence, to visit dear friend Riccardo Burchielli and then we head together to Lucca Comics and Games Festival, held from 29th of October 'till 1st of November. I've been invited there by Edizioni BD, who will publish "Outlaw Nation" in Italy.

I've borrowed fully funcitoning camera from Mrva, so there'll be tons of pics and a proper report when I get back next week.

Grand theft

Just to stay in the same mood; a reconstruction of the theft of some legal papers that were evidence for some bigger complot. Eddy Biukovic did the layouts which I've embellished and Bob did the lettering. Done for the weekly newspaper Nacional, twelve years ago. In the lower left corner it says that Eddy and me are working for American publisher, which at the time wasn't really true about me, but Bob was - lettering Eddy's "Human Target".

Crime without punishment

Found this today.

Thirteen years ago, as a young struggling artist who would take any job with the slightest promise of being paid, I started working for daily newspaper Vecernji list. They needed illustrations for the articles about crimes (how do you say "Crna kronika" in English?) when they couldn't get the proper photos. It lasted shortly though, because very soon new editorial staff came in and ditched the idea. Can't remember if I got paid.

Belgrade was fun, but now it's done! Well, actually not now but six days ago. :)
I've been dealing with some quite mundane (nevertheless important) stuff since I've returned, so I've neglected blogging, but still managed to do some work, too.

Belgrade International Comics Showroom 2009

I'll be in Belgrade over the weekend, visiting 7th International Comics Showroom. Expecting to meet quite a few old friends and acquaintances, but especially looking forward to finally meet R.M. Guera, the special guest of the show.

While I'll be drinking with him in person, you can get some compensation by watching this clip.
And ... if you haven't do it by now, start buying and reading "Scalped" first thing tomorrow!

Missing Martina

Initiated by comments on a previous post, I started digging for the last time I've worked on Martina Mjesec. Found out it was two years ago!!!
Last thing I did was this mess of a layout for the fifth page of the fifth episode.

Also, I've found out that archive of the previous episodes isn't there anymore. Since these doodles can hardly be called drawings, here's a little teaser of the episode that's been in the making for years now.

Mrva posted the colored version on his blog, so I had to come up with something else for this post.

Slaughter in da house

Every now and then I get talked into (or even volunteer for) doing something beside my regular jobs. Then I regret it. It always becomes problem. I'm too busy, or too laid back, or expecting too much from myself, or ... something else. Eventually, I do what I've promised, looong after I've promised it and most of the time I'm happy with the result! And then I'm glad i got talked into doing it!
This cover illustration is no exception. It is done for the 4th album of series called "Vekovnici", written by Marko Stojanović. Marko is very persuasive and persistent, so he managed to gather over a dozen of artists from Vardar to Triglav to work on his book. Sometimes it seems to me that it would be easier to learn to draw himself, then get this lazy sprig to work steady! : )
Anyway, back to the illustration ...
If I remember correctly, we arranged it in Laktasi, in April. Only one month later, I did the sketch for it.

We agreed on some changes and - voila! - three and a half months later, I finaly drew it!
First i did a drawing in blue pencil, same size as it will be printed, then scanned it, printed and traced it lightly on a drawing board.

Then "coloured" it with grey Ecoline.

And then sent it to Mrva to do some real coloring in Photoshop.
Now I'm happy and I can go back to my mine. : )
