Second Chas

Whoa! Time flies when you're busy ...
Didn't even realize it's been almost ten days since last post.
Well, I'm still (more then) busy, so I'll keep it short.
The second issue of Chas mini is announced ...

HELLBLAZER PRESENTS: CHAS — THE KNOWLEDGE #2 (OF 5)

Written by Simon Oliver; Art by Goran Sudzuka; Cover by Glenn Fabry

A demon is loose in London, and where's John Constantine? On a beach in Ibiza with a mai tai and a Brazilian model. That leaves Chas alone to solve a bloody mystery – but when one of his old friends goes missing and a new friend emerges to turn his life upside down, saving the city is the last thing on Chas's overburdened mind.

Heeeeello, Michael!

Well, I've returned from Erlangen five days ago, but has been working ever since.
And still have to work more, so not much sense in delaying this.
The show was great, I did dozens of sketches for fans and didn't get tired.

Half of the fans were called Michael, but there was only one caballero ...

There was, like always, lots of people in silly costumes. I got used to this, but I had to take a picture of him ...

Darko was making the real tour and took lots of photos. Hope he'll post them soon on his blog. I wanna see what I've missed being too busy sitting at the Panini booth or in the caffe bar. >:)

Marko Djurdjevic was there as a guest, too. Big talent, big heart!
Nic Klein, too. You'll here about him more soon, I'm sure.

I met lots of great people, some old friends, but big "thanks" goes to our hosts, the crew from Panini Comics and especially to Alex!

Stay tuned. I won't do much writing these days, but I'll be posting fresh art.

Aufiderzen! : )

Lines, lines, lines ...

Here's some more old stuff ...
First one is the illustration I did for "Danas", news magazine that was very influential and groundbreaking in the '80's. At that time Mirko Ilić set high standards illustrating it for years. I started working for them in 1991., but very soon they went out of business.

This is one page from those Gespenster short stories. I've penciled and inked this one myself. Complete overkill!!! : )
It must be '95. because there's my dog in left corner. Probably first of her many appearances in my comics.

I don't know what inspired me for this one. It's obviously unfinished, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't done on request.

I promise I'll post more recent stuff next time ... : )

Odmetnuti

Soon, the Croatian edition of "Outlaw Nation" will finally see the light of day! It is published by Libellus, translated by Tatjana Jambrišak and designed by Melina Mikulić. Big, 448 b/w pages, hardcover!
From 15th to 18th of May, Jamie Delano and me will be promoting it at Mafest.
After that it should be available in bookstores round Croatia and some neighbouring countries.

Summon the librarian ...

... I wish to wallow in nostalgia.
Fellow blogger sparkled the memories of some of my old works, and I started digging, but couldn't find them. But I've found some other old stuff, like this one ...

This is officially my first published work, I even got paid for! : )
The year is 1987 probably. Made for intern newspaper of the company where my parents work(ed). Nepotism has always been one of the favourite Croatian sports! >:)

This illustration was supposed to be a cover for one of the albums of the famous Yugoslav rock singer Branimir Štulić Johnny. Eddy Biukovic did colored version, but they were both dropped.
This must be late 1989.
And, zucker kommst zu letzt (pardon my French) ...

One from the couple of hundreds of pages I did for Gespenster-Geschichten in first half of '90's.
This one, like many others are done in collaboration with Esad Ribic. He did the pencils, I've inked them. It was a complete hack job that we compensated by doing five or six pages in just one night and putting in funny stuff. Having ourselves, our colleagues and friends or local 'celebrities' as characters in the story, for instance.
And, since I'm in such a good mood, let's have a prize contest;
The first one who recognize where's the title and first line of this post coming from, will get my original art as a reward!
Another award (which I haven't decided yet what it will be) goes to the one that lists most of the (in)famous people on that Gespenster page.
Hit it, boys and girls! : )

Close shave

Drawing reflections in the mirror has always been tricky to me, but I guess I've learned that too ... :)

It's official!!!

HELLBLAZER PRESENTS: CHAS — THE KNOWLEDGE #1 (OF 5)

Written by Simon Oliver; Art by Goran Sudzuka; Cover by Glenn Fabry

Cab driver Francis "Chas" Chandler leads an unremarkable existence. His greatest moments have come tagging along with John Constantine -- as a chauffeur. His home life is nothing special, and his beloved London is becoming a soulless metropolis. In middle age, Chas is stuck in a rut.
But Chas is a master of "The Knowledge," the elaborate system of routes and landmarks which every London cabbie must memorize. Until now, The Knowledge has been just a tool for Chas. But now, he's about to discover a more sinister significance of The Knowledge.

An ominous entity from London's grim history has reemerged, and only someone with The Knowledge can stop it. Is Chas up to the task, on his own?

From the feverish mind of Simon Oliver (THE EXTERMINATORS, GEN 13) with lush artwork by Goran Sudzuka (Y: THE LAST MAN, LADY CONSTANTINE), THE KNOWLEDGE is Chas's chance to make his own mark on the dark universe of HELLBLAZER.

Danke Deutschland

I'll be attending a comic convention in Erlangen from 22nd to 25th of May. I've been there twice before and it's always been fun, but this year I am one of the official guests at Panini Comics, so it should be double fun! I'll be at their booth signing Y the Last Man books and special edition of Lady Johanna Constantine. Since I'll be in the company of Mark Buckingham, Pasqual Ferry and Marko Djurdjevic I have no doubts a fair amount of people will show up.
If you're in the neighborhood, drop by, buy me a beer and I'll tell you a fairy tale or two. : )
